The sky lantern was a centerpiece of a recent even, actually about 200 of them. They were lit on the banks of the St. Joseph River for the annual IPFW Fest. Last year the event was as the organizers called it a “splash hit”. The people really enjoyed the water acrobatics, but this year they had much more entertainment. There was boat show, races for canoes and kayaks, Adirondack rocking chairs that are decorated by the local artists, float plains and water ski stunts. There also was live music at the event. All people who own boats are later encouraged to take part in the flotilla. Three people opened up the event by jumping off the Ron Venderly Family Bridge. The whole purpose to the event is to attract entrepreneurs to the river and to raise awareness. The local community wants entrepreneurs to see what kind of positive response this event has on the locals and think to themselves that they can invest in a river project. There were a lot of workshops on the river and one of them was to tell people that the water is not very safe for swimming. The local people are hoping this will attract the attention of people so that they could do something to change it. The finale of the event was marked by fireworks. Some call this holiday the festival of the double sevens or the Festival of the seven daughters. One day she decided to send them down to Earth. The seven sisters went to take a bath in a river. They left all their clothes on its shore. Soon after an ox herder came along and decided to play a trick on them. He hid all their clothes and waited to see what will happen. The youngest one, which also happened to be the most ravishing one, went on the shore and look for their clothes. But since the herder saw her naked, they had to get married. They fell in love and started their life on Earth. But the Goddess of Heaven got angry, because of the long absence of her daughter and summoned her back to Heaven. When she realized how much the young couple loved each other, she let her daughter visit her husband once a year – on the seventh day of the seventh month.

The Lantern tree comes from Africa, but you can also find it in South East Asia, the Caribbean, India and Ethiopia. The tree got his name because of its beautiful flowers. They are unique and you cannot stop looking at them. The shape of the flower resembles a Chinese lantern. They are oval and bullet shaped and the flower hangs upside down. Sky Lanterns could be seen in the “Bachelorette” reality show. The last episode took place in Thailand and the bachelorette Ashley Hebert took all the men over there.
