The sky lantern was a centerpiece of a recent even, actually about 200 of them. They were lit on the banks of the St. Joseph River for the annual IPFW Fest. Last year the event was as the organizers called it a “splash hit”. The people really enjoyed the water acrobatics, but this year they had much more entertainment. There was boat show, races for canoes and kayaks, Adirondack rocking chairs that are decorated by the local artists, float plains and water ski stunts. There also was live music at the event. All people who own boats are later encouraged to take part in the flotilla. Three people opened up the event by jumping off the Ron Venderly Family Bridge. The whole purpose to the event is to attract entrepreneurs to the river and to raise awareness. The local community wants entrepreneurs to see what kind of positive response this event has on the locals and think to themselves that they can invest in a river project. There were a lot of workshops on the river and one of them was to tell people that the water is not very safe for swimming. The local people are hoping this will attract the attention of people so that they could do something to change it. The finale of the event was marked by fireworks. They fell in love and started their life on Earth. But the Goddess of Heaven got angry, because of the long absence of her daughter and summoned her back to Heaven. When she realized how much the young couple loved each other, she let her daughter visit her husband once a year – on the seventh day of the seventh month.
