Lanterns in Hawaii for Memorial Day
a wonderful carrier of people’s prayers. Just write down your wish, or your prayer or a nice memory of the person who you are remembering and light the lantern. On the 30 of May this year, the Hawaiian people will do just that. The only difference is that they will use floating lanterns. This will be the 13th annual Lantern Floating Hawaii Ceremony. This year the 40 000 Hawaiian residents and tourists that usually gather on this day expect to see more that 3000 floating lanterns in the ocean. Each lantern will carry a massage – either personal or from a certain community to a lost special someone. This years theme is called “Many rivers – one ocean”. And this truly will be an ocean of lights, prayers and good wishes. We have spoken to people who have actually witnessed this lanterns tradition before and they shared with us that it is spectacular. But above all the sight of the lanterns and the whole process of writing down the prayers and releasing them is very moving and emotional. It is really amazing how a simple devise like a lantern can turn an event into a very spiritual experience.
