America loves a public holiday, it’s a chance to have some time off work and spend your day with your family and friends. But it’s also a time to remember the reason why you have a holiday – usually to remember someone who did something great for you and mankind. Take Martin Luther King Jr Day, sure it’s great to have another holiday in January, gives you an extra day to get some more skiing in, but it’s important to think about all that Martin Luther King Jr did for America.
Martin Luther King Jr was the head spokesperson for civil rights and was heavily involved in protesting against racial discrimination. He was an acclaimed author, publishing a number of books and essays and won the Nobel Peace Price. He was assassinated in 1968 whilst standing on the balcony of his hotel in Memphis where he was to lead a protest.
We’ve found it’s often nice to use Sky Lanterns at memorials and funeral services of loved ones. A single Sky Lantern gracefully floating up into the sky can symbolise the soul of your loved one being taken away safely and peacefully. Martin Luther King Jr Day is a day where you can release a Sky Lantern in memory of him and all the great things he achieved during his life.
