If you’re a high school student or a college student, no doubt you’re getting ready for Homecoming right about now! Whether you love it for the big game, the dance or the chance to become the Homecoming King or Queen, chances are you’ll be going all to make sure you have a great time.
A great idea is to take some sky lanterns to the game, especially if it’s a football game (basketball might not work so well being indoors) and have people release them right before kick off to signify the start of the game and to welcome back all those past students who have come from all around the country to watch current students from their old schools battle it out to become Homecoming champions.
You could also release the lanterns during the Homecoming parade if your school or institution allows it. Imagine seeing your float coming down the street followed by a procession of sky lanterns in your school or college colors – it would look amazing.
There’s still some speculation as to which university established the Homecoming tradition, in fact there are two universities that claim it was them, the University of Missouri and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. So we’ll just give it to both of them shall we? As long as you have a great time at your Homecoming you can thank them both for starting the tradition.
